Tuesday's two hour launch of the ninth season of American Idol was seen by 29.8 million viewers in the US. The first guest judge was ex-Spice Girl, Victoria Beckham. Avril will be a guest judge in the coming weeks, alongside other stars such as Mary J. Blige, Katy Perry and Joe Jonas.
